Mint chocolate chip smoothie ingredients
Here are the ingredients we are working with:
Make sure to use frozen banana! You can use frozen bananas straight from your freezer in your smoothie. This will create smooth, chilled and creamy results. Bananas also add many vitamins and nutrients like potassium and fiber.
Frozen spinach adds nutrients, vitamins and makes this smoothie have a fun green color. Using frozen spinach ensures your smoothie is cold and chilled.
Chocolate protein powder adds protein of course! Adding protein to smoothies makes them more wholesome and filling due to the added protein, vitamins and minerals.
To get the perfect minty flavor we will be adding a splash of peppermint extract. It’s very strong so you’ll only need 1/8 teaspoon.
For a slight peanut butter flavor add one tablespoon of powdered peanut butter. You can also use regular creamy peanut butter.
Flaxseed meal is a great source of many essential nutrients and vitamins like fiber and omega 3 fatty acids. Also you don’t even taste it in this recipe but you get all the benefits.
Milk (or any liquid) is essential when making a smoothie. It helps bring all the ingredients together into a smooth and drinkable mixture. For this recipe you can use cows milk, almond milk, oat milk or any dairy free milk of your choice.
Chocolate chips are optional but highly recommended! They top off the mint chocolate chip smoothie.

Tips and tricks
- Make sure to use frozen banana! Since there isn’t any ice in this recipe you’ll want to make sure your banana is frozen so you get a chilled smoothie. Anytime you have extra bananas on hand simply slice them up and put them in the freezer!
- Just like the banana, make sure to use frozen spinach! This will ensure your smoothie is cooled and chilled (you can still use regular fresh spinach but the smoothie won’t come out chilled).
- You can use any milk you prefer! Feel free to use cows milk, almond milk, cashew milk or oat milk.
- Regular peanut butter or powdered peanut butter! This recipe calls for powdered peanut butter but you can also use regular creamy peanut butter.
- Smoothies are best when served immediately!
Frequently asked questions
Is this smoothie vegan?
Yes you can make this smoothie vegan by using dairy free milk!
Do you need ice in smoothies?
If you use frozen fruit, ice isn’t necessary! I find that using ice can ‘water down’ a smoothie so I always opt for using frozen fruit. However, if you like adding ice you definitely can add a few ice cubes prior to blending.
Are smoothies gluten free?
This smoothie in particular is gluten free as it doesn’t have any grains.
How to make a frozen fruit smoothie?
Smoothies are super easy to make! I have outlined all the steps below. In short, blend all the ingredients together until smooth.
Can I omit the peppermint extract?
Yes you can. However, this smoothie won’t have any mint flavor. It will just be chocolate (which is still delicious!!).
How to serve
Smoothies are best served immediately! If you let them sit too long they can start to separate and loose their structure. So once you’re done blending, add some chocolate chips on top and enjoy!
