Easy Greek Chicken Meatballs with Lemon Orzo
Ingredients
Greek Meatballs
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 egg large
- ½ cup feta crumbled, chopped small
- 1.5 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp of each: basil, onion powder, garlic powder, dill, parsley
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
Lemon Orzo
- 1 cup dried orzo cook orzo according to the package
- 1 lemon zested
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter melted
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese optional, grated or shredded
- ½ tsp of each: oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper
- ¼ tsp dill
Instructions
- In a large bowl, add all your meatball ingredients. Mix with your hands just until combined. Form the mixture into 15 meatballs.
- In a large pan over medium heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil or spray it with cooking spray. Add your meatballs, make sure they have enough room to cook and brown evenly. Use tongs to continuously flip the meatballs until they are fully browned. About 5-6 minutes.
- Add a lid and cook the meatballs for another 5-6 minutes until fully cooked through. The internal temperature of the meatball should reach 165 degrees. Do not over cook as this will dry out the meatballs! Remove from heat and set aside while you assemble the lemon orzo.
- In a large bowl, add all the lemon orzo ingredients: cooked orzo, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, olive oil OR butter, parmesan cheese, and seasonings. Mix until fully combined.
- Serve the cooked meatballs over the warm lemon orzo and enjoy!
Elizabeth Catherine Hernandez says
Is the parmesan cheese shredded or grated?
caitlinbrae says
Hi Elizabeth, you can use either! I have used both shredded and grated in the orzo. It will melt a little bit as you mix it in. I hope you enjoy it!

What fresh herbs did you use?

Can these be frozen?
caitlinbrae says
Hi, I have not tried freezing them. However, I think they would be totally fine to freeze. If you store them in a freezer friendly, air tight container and let them thaw out at room temperature. Then heat them back up on the stove with a little olive oil. Please let me know how this turns out if you give it a try!
Dana says
Made this tonight and everyone loved it, thanks!
caitlinbrae says
Hi Dana, so glad you love these greek meatballs! Definitely one of my favorites too 🙂
Lalanya Sparkman says
I made this tonight and it was Super Delish!! I made the meatballs with chicken breast that I put through my food processor and I wouldn’t use chicken breast again, I will definitely use chicken thighs next time. I also added double the dill, lemon and garlic for my families taste.(I used my fermented garlic instead of powder in the meatballs and orzo). I had some tzatziki that I added a little bit of fresh lemon juice too along with a little bit of lactose free sour cream and a little bit of vegan mayo and blended into a sauce for the top of the meatballs and orzo. We we’re Not disappointed with this recipe at all!! Thank you for sharing it 🤗
caitlinbrae says
Hi Lalanya, thanks so much! I’m so glad you loved these greek meatballs. I love how you added tzatziki and sour cream – yum!
Lauren Lopez says
Has anyone tried baking these instead of in a skillet?
Ivy says
This was 10000/10 soooo yummy !! I sent this recipe to all my friends and family. I did add homemade sourdough bread crumbs to the meatballs though to form a little more round but I can’t wait to make it again!!
caitlinbrae says
Thanks so much, Ivy! I’m so glad you loved this recipe. I love how you used sourdough bread crumbs – such a great idea!

Sarah says
This was great! I baked the meatballs, just because I hate dealing with the splatter. I think I will air fry them next time. It was super delicious!!
caitlinbrae says
Hi Sarah, thanks so much for the review! I love that you baked the meatballs. Thats a great cooking option – I’ll have to try that next time!
Pat says
Hi Sara… this is a new recipe to me…and I thought I would rather bake than pan fry the meatballs as well. I love orzo, but also wondering about subbing in a different small pasta. For how long did you bake your meatballs?
thanks!
Amy says
What temp and how long did you bake for? Love this idea and want to try! We love this recipe but I’m a huge fan of throwing things in the oven a stovetop whenever possible.
Melissa says
Made this tonight and everyone loved it but how in the world did you make the chicken meatballs so round? Great flavor!
caitlinbrae says
Thanks, Melissa! I’m so glad you loved this recipe. Try rolling the meatballs in the palm of your hands! (Use a spoon to scoop about a tablespoon) Hope this helps!
Sarah says
Has anyone successfully made the meatballs without the feta? Do they hold together okay? I can’t do dairy so I’m always looking for ways to adapt…… maybe I’ll give it a try and let y’all know! It looks delicious!!!
Thanks
Amie says
I am making them without feta now! They are holding together great. I am guessing they will taste good too.
Laura Manderson says
I found Lactose free Feta Cheese! It’s very good! I also added Panko crumbs to my meatballs to hold them together!
Suzanne says
I made them with the feta and I had to add panko because the recipe didn’t share what dry ingredient should be added to the meatballs. Otherwise these were amazing!
Kat says
This was a delicious and simple meal!
Jennifer says
Family favorite of ours now!
caitlinbrae says
Thanks, Jennifer! So glad you and your family love this recipe!
Delaney says
Do you think this would be good with ground turkey instead of chicken? This looks delish but I only have ground turkey right now!
caitlinbrae says
Hi Delaney, I have not personally tried ground turkey but I know people who have tried ground turkey and they came out well 🙂 Please let me know how you like them!
Maggie says
Can I bake these? I never seem to do well cooking my meatballs in a pan on the stove. I always end up burning them or lose most of them due to sticking in the pan.
caitlinbrae says
Hi Maggie! You can definitely try baking these. I haven’t tried baking them before but please let me know how they come out! I would try baking at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes until the internal temperature of the meatballs reach 165 degrees.
Madison says
Hi Caitlin! I loved this dish. I left out basil and dill and added fresh garlic to the meatballs and orzo, and garnished with fresh parsley. Will definitely make again!
caitlinbrae says
Hi Madison, thanks so much for the feedback! I love that you added fresh garlic – yum!
Bailey says
This recipe was delicious! It’s a new family favorite

Do you think these could be made with ground beef?
Rochelle Hall says
Wow! This is fantastic! I baked the meatballs at 350 for 30 minutes. Everything was perfect!
Mandy Barnes says
Just made these tonight using ground turkey since that’s what I could find at my store. Came out amazing!! Thank you!
Paige says
Absolutely delicious!!!
Kelly says
Do you use fresh herbs or dried?
Joan West says
This is a wonderful recipe! The only thing I would do different is make more orzo! It was delicious!!
Susan says
Such an easy and delicious recipe. My picky toddler and husband love the meatballs and orzo. I switched out the dried parsley and dill for fresh (but it’s great either way). We also prefer the orzo with olive oil option and don’t add the Parmesan. Thanks for this recipe, it’ll be a regular in our house!
Kathy Murdoch says
Definitely something I will add to my regulars!
Laura Manderson says
My family loved this recipe! It was super easy to make! I browned the meatballs and then put them in the oven to finish cooking! We love Parmesan cheese so we added more after it was on our plates! This is a very cost effective dish ! I will definitely make it again!
Carissa says
Made this last night and it was awesome! Very flavorful, easy, and I had most of the ingredients on hand. Served with tzatziki and it was a perfect match!
Judy says
Delicious! However, I might put a little less salt next time. Thanks for the recipe!!
