Fruit salad recipe ingredients
This fruit salad is simple and minimal. Sticking to the main (and popular) fruit is always a good choice because you’ll know it will be a crowd pleaser. But at the end of the day, feel free to add any fruit you love. This recipe is super versatile. Here are the main fruit ingredients in this fruit salad recipe.
Pineapple to pick a good pineapple you’ll want to look for a a yellow color. Yellow pineapple means it’s ripe and ready to eat!
Pick fresh strawberries that look fresh and bright in color.
Blueberries should be blue in color. Hints of purple may indicate they are not fully ripened. The blueberries should also be firm and plump!
Cantaloupe should be mostly firm but not too hard or soft. Make sure there are no squishy spots as that can mean the cantaloupe is over-ripe or rotting.
To pick a watermelon you can lightly knock on the outside. If it makes a deep hollow it’s ripe (an old trick my mom taught me) and it has worked every time. Otherwise just look for a fully green watermelon with a small creamy yellow spot (the yellow spot is where the watermelons have rested on the ground).
Lime orange dressing
To top things off and take this fruit salad to the next level, we will be adding a lime orange dressing. While this dressing is totally optionally, it’s highly recommended. It adds a nice citrus punch and also helps the fruit from turning brown. Here are the four ingredients in the fruit salad dressing.
Orange juice, fresh or store bought works.
Fresh lime juice, about 1/2 of a lime juiced.
Honey just a tablespoon. Or a teaspoon for less sweetness.
Lastly, lemon zest to add a punch of citrus flavor.
