Ingredients in this sugar cookie recipe
I tried to keep these cookies super simple! All you need are the 9 below ingredients below.
Butter is the baking fat in this recipe.
Both white sugar and powered sugar add sweetness! Powered sugar helps give these cookies a chewy texture while white sugar helps keep them moist.
A little bit of neutral oil also helps add moisture.
One egg helps bind all the ingredients together.
A splash of vanilla helps enhance all the flavors.
Regular white flour is the main flour used in this recipe.
Baking soda is the leavening agent in these cookies.
Just a pinch of salt to help enhance the flavor profile.
Cream of tartar also helps the cookies rise and gives them a soft and fluffy texture.

Tips to make the best sugar cookie recipe
Follow the below steps to ensure you make the best sugar cookies!
Measure the flour correctly. Use a dry measuring cup, not a glass liquid measuring cup. Scoop the flour into the measuring cup and level it with a butter knife.
Make sure the butter is softened. Leave it on the counter until it comes to room temperature. OR carefully defrost it in the microwave in 5 second increments.
To start, cream together the butter and sugar. This helps add air into the mixture and creates light and fluffy cookies.
Let the cookies cool before adding the frosting. Make sure the sugar cookies are cooled before you add the icing so the frosting does not melt.
