<p class="has-large-font-size">Let me start out by saying that these gluten free apple cinnamon rolls are not like your traditional fluffy cinnamon rolls (if you&#8217;re looking for a classic, fluffy cinnamon roll give these <strong><a href="https://braesbites.com/healthier-homemade-cinnamon-rolls/">soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls a try</a></strong>). Since this recipe is made with oat flour, they have a completely different texture. They are still loaded with sweetness, cinnamon and apple flavor but, they are a different in many ways as well. These rolls have a cake like texture but are still soft and melt in your mouth. Keep reading to find out more details on these cinnamon rolls with apple pie filling. </p>

<li>And the last of the wet ingredients is <strong>ghee or butter</strong>. Feel free to use whichever you prefer or whatever you have on hand. </li>

<li>We will add one small diced <strong>apple </strong>to the filling for the apple flavor and crunch. </li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to make cinnamon rolls and apple pie filling</h2>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 1</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and grease an 8 inch or 9 inch circle pan. </strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 2</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Start off with the wet ingredients</strong>. Add the milk and lemon juice to a medium bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes while you gather your other ingredients. Combining the milk and lemon juice will create a homemade buttermilk. Then add the vanilla and melted butter. Whisk to combine. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 3</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Now combine the dry ingredients.</strong> In a large bowl add the flour, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 4</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Then add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture.</strong> Mix with a spoon or spatula. Let the batter sit while you make your filling. This will allow the dough to thicken and make it workable. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 5</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Meanwhile, make the apple pie filling.</strong> In a small bowl combine all the filling ingredients: <em>apple sauce, butter, sugar, apple and cinnamon</em>. Mix until combined.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 6</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Now carefully roll out the dough on a floured surface.</strong> Using your hands or a roller press the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the apple filling in an even layer on top of the dough. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 7</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Roll the dough into a log.</strong> Since we are using a gluten free oat flour to make the dough, it make crack as you roll it into a log. Just be patient and gently roll it up, pinching together any cracks along the way. Once the dough is rolled into a log. Slice it in half with a very sharp knife. Then cut each half into 4 slices.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>STEP 8</strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Add the 8 rolls to your prepared circle pan</strong>. Bake the rolls at 400 degrees for 20-22 minutes. </p>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Last but not least: STEP 9</strong>!</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>While the apple cinnamon rolls are baking, make the icing</strong>. Combine the butter, milk powdered sugar, and vanilla in a small bowl and whisk until smooth. Remove the rolls from the oven, let them cool for a minute or two then add the icing and enjoy!</p>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Serve warm from the oven.</strong> Cinnamon rolls are best when served warm, right from the oven. Definitely allow the rolls to cool for a few minutes and then dig in! </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Make the filling while the oat flour dough rests. </strong>In order for this oat flour dough to be workable, you want to let it rest for a few minutes to thicken up. While it&#8217;s resting make your apple pie filling!</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Store leftovers in the freezer for a later date.</strong> What&#8217;s great about this recipe is that it&#8217;s freezer friendly. If you make a batch of these cinnamon rolls with apple pie filling store the left overs in a freezer friendly container. I recommend using parchment paper as well to help separate the rolls in the container so they don&#8217;t stick together. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Pinch the dough as you roll it into a log. </strong>Since we are using a gluten free oat flour to make the dough, it make crack as you roll it into a log. Just be patient and gently roll it up, pinching together any cracks along the way. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Make the icing while the apple cinnamon rolls bake. </strong>While the cinnamon rolls are cooking in the oven, it&#8217;s the perfect time to make your icing. </p>
