How to make chocolate dipped raspberries
Making chocolate dipped raspberries requires a few simple steps.
- Gather your ingredients
- Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper
- Dip each raspberry in yogurt and place them on the baking sheet. Let them chill in the freezer to harden while you melt the chocolate.
- Melt the chocolate and coconut oil in the microwave or a double boiler.
- After about 10 minutes, once the yogurt has hardened, dip each raspberry in melted chocolate.
- Set the raspberries back on the baking sheet and into the freezer to harden.
- After 10-15 minutes, enjoy!
How to melt chocolate for dipping
There are two easy ways to melt chocolate. On the stove using a double boiler or in the microwave.
To melt chocolate in the microwave add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave bowl. Microwave in 15 second increments, stirring after each time until fully melted. Make sure you use a high quality chocolate otherwise the chocolate could burn easily and become clumpy.
To melt chocolate on homemade double boiler grab a small saucepan and a heat safe bowl. Fill the sauce pan up 1/4 of the way with water. Add the bowl on top of the saucepan and add the chocolate and coconut oil into the bowl. Bring the water to a strong simmer over medium heat. Lower the heat and continue to mix the chocolate and coconut oil until fully melted and smooth.
Coconut oil and chocolate
Melting the coconut oil and chocolate together makes a smooth and creamy chocolate. It also makes it super easy to work with. If you don’t have a coconut oil, try using a little bit of butter. Also using coconut oil helps the chocolate harden on the raspberry which creates a thick chocolate layer.
How to store chocolate dipped raspberries
Store the chocolate dipped raspberries in the fridge or the freezer. Make sure to store them in a freezer friendly container or bag. For a frozen treat, store them in the freezer and enjoy them straight from freezer. Don’t let them thaw from the freezer as the raspberries will release moisture that will ruin the chocolate. Or don’t freeze them at all and store them in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Tips and variations
While this recipe is delicious on its own, feel free to try these few variations.
Yogurt dipped fruit is delicious! While this recipe calls for vanilla greek yogurt, feel free to use a raspberry yogurt or mixed berry yogurt instead.
Add toppings. Feel free to add some toppings before the chocolate hardens (like sprinkles, crushed walnuts, or shredded coconut).
Make a large batch. Since these chocolate dipped raspberries last a while in the freezer, make a large batch so you always have an easy healthy dessert on hand.
Add a vanilla chocolate drizzle. To make things fancy, melt some white chocolate as well. When the chocolate layer hardens, drizzle white chocolate on top.
Gifting! These chocolate raspberries make the perfect treat to gift. Store them in a plastic container and wrap a pretty bow around the box. Gift them to your neighbor or a friend (just remind them to store them in the freezer lol!)
