Oat flour, the main ingredient! This recipe uses fine oat flour as it results in really fluffy and soft baked goods. Use a store bought fine oat flour. Or make your own! I have outlined instructions on how to make your own below.
Baking powder is the leavening agent used to puff up these donuts.
Just a pinch of salt helps enhance all the flavors.
One egg helps bind all the ingredients together! Bring the egg to room temperature if you can. To bring an egg to room temperature quickly, simply let it sit in a small bowl of warm water while you gather all your other ingredients.
Milk adds moisture. Feel free to use almond milk, cows milk or oat milk.
Light oil or melted butter can be used as the baking fat. If you’re using butter make sure your other ingredients are at room temperature so the butter does not solidify.
A bit of sugar to sweeten things up! Feel free to use white sugar or coconut sugar.
Lastly, two splashes of vanilla extract to enhance all the flavors.
Baking with oat flour
Baking with oat flour is very simple. It replaces regular flour in baked goods. However, it is not a 1:1 replacement as oat flour is much lighter in weight than traditional flour.
As for the baking results with oat flour, it produces really soft and fluffy baked goods. That’s why it is great for baking. It also has great health benefits which makes it a healthier alternative to regular flour. Oats are loaded with whole grains, fiber and complex carbs!

Substitutes and Variations
Flour. As you know, the main flour in the recipe is oat flour. I do not recommend substituting another type of flour. Feel free to use store bought oat flour or finely ground homemade oat flour! This is a really great oat flour from Amazon.
Baking fat. For this recipe you can use melted butter or any light oil. Some oils that work well are light olive oil, canola oil and refined coconut oil.
Sugar. For this recipe feel free to use regular white sugar or coconut sugar.
Toppings. Top these easy donuts with rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, crumbled cookies, or enjoy them plain!
Expert tips!
Use room temperature ingredients. This helps all the ingredients bind together nicely. If you’re using butter as the baking fat, this step is key. Otherwise the butter will solidify if it’s mixed with cold ingredients.
Use fine oat flour. As noted before, make sure you use fine oat flour. If your oat flour is too grainy it will mess with the integrity of this recipe.
Let donuts cool in the pan. This step is key! Make sure you let the donuts cool in the pan for at least 10-15 minutes. Otherwise they will crumble and not hold their shape. After the cooling time, simply pop them out of the pan using a butter knife or your fingers.

Ooh these are so good. I doubled the recipe since I was nervous to not have enough for our family of 6 after reading a previous comment, but I did end up with 12 so I think it may just depend on the size of the tray.
I reduced the sugar a third, and used half coconut sugar and half monk fruit. For the glaze I used powdered monk fruit and cinnamon. It was amazing. The children said they are the best donuts they have ever had. Maybe we haven’t had conventional donuts for a while, but nonetheless they are winners with such decent ingredients and baked!

These are great and on our regular rotation now. I add a touch of nutmeg for that classic donut taste. My kids say these are the best donuts they have ever had. It’s so wonderful to have a healthy recipe for a fun breakfast. Basically muffins but more fun.
