If you love coconut and dark chocolate, these 5 ingredient healthy mound bars are for you! They are so easy to make and only require a few simple steps. These little chocolate treats have become one of my new favorite desserts!
Ingredients you’ll need to make healthy mound bars
You will only need 5 ingredients to whip up these yummy coconut treats.
- Coconut butter, I bought my coconut butter on amazon!
- Shredded coconut, I used unsweetened shredded coconut
- Pitted dates, we will be soaking them in hot water to soften them up
- Dark chocolate chips, you can also use milk chocolate chips
- Sea salt, I use flaky sea salt but feel free to omit!
How to make perfect 5 ingredient mound bars
First you’ll want to soak the dates in hot water for at least 10 minutes. This will help soften them for when it comes time to blend them in your high speed blender.
(Reserve the water you soak the dates in – we will be using 2 tbsp of the ‘date water’)
Then, add the soaked dates and 2 tbsp of date water to your blender. Blend until a smooth paste forms.
Next, in a medium bowl, add the melted coconut butter, finely shredded coconut nut and the date paste. Mix with a spoon until fully combined.
Using your hands, shape the mixture into 10 logs. Put them on a plate and let them chill in the freezer for an hour.
Now melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.
Finally, dip each coconut candy in the melted chocolate until completely covered. Sprinkle the top with sea salt and place them back in the fridge to set.
Once the chocolate has harden, enjoy!
What makes these mound bars healthy?
What I love about these mound bars is there is no added sugar! By adding dates to the filling it makes these treats perfectly sweet.
Dates add some sweetness to these treats and they have a great nutritious profile. They are loaded with fiber and are an excellent natural sweetener.
What is coconut butter? Coconut butter is not the same as coconut oil! Coconut butter is made from the coconut flesh.
