Use up your ripe bananas and make healthy paleo banana bread
Make this super moist banana bread naturally sweetened with mashed ripe bananas!
Using ripe bananas is key as they become much sweeter when they ripen. Since bananas are naturally sweet I didn’t want to include any added sugars in this recipe. I find that banana bread can be too sweet when you add additional sugar.
This banana bread can be enjoyed in so many different ways. I love enjoying mine with some eggs and fruit for breakfast or with a spread of almond butter for an afternoon snack.
What makes this banana bread so healthy?
- Firstly, this banana bread is only sweetened with bananas making it refined sugar free! The natural sugars from the ripe bananas make this bread perfectly sweet.
- Secondly, this recipe uses a combination almond flour and tapioca flour. Both of these gluten free flours have many nutritional benefits. Almond flour is made with one ingredient: ground almonds. Almonds are higher in fat and lower in carb and are full of vitamins and nutrients. Tapioca flour is made from cassava root. I love adding it into recipes as it is common allergen free and blends nicely with other gluten free and paleo flours.
- Lastly, it has only 205 calories per slice! I like to cut my banana bread into thick slices so the nutrition information is calculated based on 9 slices per loaf. Feel free to make thinner slices to lower the calories per slice or cut the slices even thicker if you prefer!
Banana Bread Variation Ideas
Add in 1/2 cup of mix in’s of choice: chopped walnuts, chocolate chips or raisins. Fold in about 1/2-1 cup of mix in’s into the batter before pouring it into the pan.
An extra teaspoon of cinnamon for extra flavor. Are you a cinnamon lover? Add in some extra cinnamon to boost the flavor!
A 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, cloves and allspice. Adding in these warming spices will really enhance the flavor of this banana bread.
Add a drizzle of your favorite nut butter. I love adding almond butter to my banana bread. Add a drizzle your favorite nut butter onto the top of the loaf or onto your individual slice. Some of my favorite nut butters to use are peanut nutter, almond butter and cashew butter.
