Ingredients in this almond flour waffle
This recipe requires a few simple ingredients that you probably have on hand.
- Almond flour
- Tapioca flour
- Baking powder
- Egg
- Almond milk
- Apple sauce, coconut oil, or butter
- Vanilla extract
- Toppings of choice
Ingredient breakdown
First up we have almond flour. Baking with almond flour and other gluten free flours can be a little tricky! The combination of gluten free flours creates the best consistency. Almond flour is a great gluten free and paleo flour substitute.
To compliment the almond flour we have tapioca flour. Tapioca flour is another great, starchy flour that pairs nicely with the almond flour in this waffle. The combination of these two flours creates the best consistency.
Next up, add a little baking powder to give the waffle structure!
For this recipe you’ll need one egg to bind all the ingredients together.
For the liquid ingredients you’ll need almond milk or your milk of choice! Almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk, or cows milk are all great options.
You can also use either apple sauce, coconut oil, or butter as the baking fat. All options work great!
A little bit of coconut sugar to add some sweetness. You can also use brown sugar or white sugar.
Lastly, we will add a hint vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
How to serve this almond flour waffle
Waffles are meant for indulging! Especially with the toppings and maple syrup. This waffle includes a little bit of coconut for a hint of added sweetness. It creates a neutral, yet flavorful base to create the perfect waffle. I prefer it this way so you can get creative with the toppings!
Here are some toppings you’re going to love:
- Pure maple syrup: pure maple syrup doesn’t have any added preservatives or chemicals but feel free to use any maple syrup you love!
- Fresh or frozen berries: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries
- Sliced bananas: Bananas and waffles are always a great combination. The added sweetness from the bananas pairs perfectly with the crunchy waffle base.
- Nut butter: A drizzle of your favorite nut butter is always a good idea: peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter
- Chocolate chips: A chocolate chip waffle? Sign me up!
Adding these toppings creates the perfect amount of sweetness and flavor to this small batch waffle recipe.
