Granola recipe with chocolate and peanut butter

Are you a granola lover like me? Because I am sharing this delicious chocolate peanut butter granola that it truly a crowd favorite! It makes a wonderful breakfast, snack, or can even be enjoyed for dessert! Once you start making your own homemade granola (and realize how easy it is) you won’t look back.

Ingredients needed for this peanut butter granola recipe

Granola recipes require simple ingredients like oats, nuts, natural sweeteners, dried fruit and chocolate chips (of course!). This granola is a fun twist on traditional granola and requires just 10 simple ingredients.

Oats: Oats are the main ingredient in this granola. You’ll need 2 and 1/2 cups of rolled oats for this recipe.

Peanuts: Peanuts add a crunchy and nutty flavor. If you don’t like peanuts, feel free to add any nuts you like. However, peanuts are a great addition because they add to the peanut butter flavor.

Chocolate chips: Chocolate chips are a must! I love using chocolate chunks but feel free to use regular chocolate chips. You can use milk chocolate, semi sweet chocolate, or dark chocolate chips. The options are endless!

Chia seeds: Chia seeds add a slight crunch and many nutrients to this granola. Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants and fiber. If you don’t have any chia seeds on hand, you can omit them from the recipe.

Cocoa powder: Cocoa powder adds the perfect chocolate flavor along with the chocolate chips. Cocoa powder can be a tad bitter but, if it’s combined with an all natural sweetener it creates the best rich chocolate flavor.

Creamy peanut butter: Creamy peanut butter helps this granola stick together and gives it a perfect peanut butter flavor. If you aren’t a fan of peanut butter, feel free to use another nut butter like almond butter. However, using almond butter will change the flavor profile.

Honey: Honey also helps this granola stick together and adds the perfect amount of sweetness. Feel free to substitute in maple syrup if you don’t have any honey.

Coconut sugar: Coconut sugar helps add crunch and sweetness to this recipe! It also helps create large, sweet clusters (which is the best part)!

Vanilla extract: Adding vanilla extract helps to enhance all of the delicious flavors.

Salt: Salt also helps enhance the flavors and pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the honey. Salty and sweet is the best combo!

Why you’ll love this granola recipe

You’re going to love this granola recipe! Here are a few reasons why it’s so great:

This recipe makes large chunks of granola.

This granola is loaded with chocolate and peanut butter flavor.

It is easy to make!

This recipe makes a large batch so it will last all week long!

You can serve this granola with yogurt or enjoy it on its own.

It requires 10 simple ingredients.

This recipe has crunchy bites of salted peanuts and chocolate chips.

What makes this homemade chocolate granola healthier

First off, the main ingredient in this granola is oats. Oats are a great source of whole grains, fiber and antioxidants. They are also super filling so they make a great snack or breakfast.

Secondly, adding chia seeds to this recipe adds a slight crunch and many other benefits like antioxidants, minerals and fiber. I love adding them in my oatmeal and granola.

Thirdly, creamy peanut butter is a must for this recipe. Make sure to use an all natural kind with no added sugar. Creamy peanut butter tends to be very oily so make sure you give it a good stir before measuring.

Variations and substitutes

Below you’ll find a few variations and substitutes that work well in this granola recipe.

Maple syrup or honey. While this recipe uses honey, feel free to use some pure maple syrup instead. Make sure you use pure maple syrup as it only has one ingredient.

Coconut sugar or white sugar. This recipe calls for 1/4 cup of coconut sugar but feel free to use white sugar or brown sugar.

Peanuts or cashews. To go along with the peanut butter flavor, this recipe calls for 1 cup of peanuts. However, if you don’t have peanuts feel free to use cashews, almonds or walnuts.

How to store and serve

Store the remaining granola in an airtight container in the fridge for a week or on your counter at room temperature for 2-3 days. I find it best to store in the fridge as it lasts much longer!

Pro tip: if you’re looking for a fun hostess gift; make a batch of this granola, store it in baggies and add a cute bow. It’s perfect for gifting!

I love storing my granola in the fridge and serving it over greek yogurt! Here are a few other ways you can enjoy it.

Serve this granola over a mixture of plain and vanilla greek yogurt.

You can enjoy it on its own!

Drizzle some creamy peanut butter on top.

Enjoy it like cereal with some milk!

Add some fresh fruit! Granola and fruit is a great combination.
