<p class="has-large-font-size">Marshmallow brownies are a brownie recipe topped with fluffy brownies and chocolate icing. They have a bottom brownie layer, a gooey marshmallow middle layer, and a rich chocolate frosting top layer. Basically pure deliciousness. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">These almond flour brownies are at the top of my favorite desserts list. They are incredibly decadent with ridiculously fudgy and gooey layers. They are also <strong>gluten free, dairy free, grain free, paleo friendly,</strong> and <strong>refined sugar free</strong>! </p>

I love using it for baking! For this recipe we will only need 1/2 cup. </li></ul>

We will add 1 tbsp to create the perfect texture. </li></ul>

<p class="has-large-font-size">You only need 4 ingredients for the delicious chocolate frosting layer.</p>

We will use 1/4 cup!</li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li><strong>Cocoa powder</strong> makes the chocolate frosting extra chocolatey. </li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li>A splash or two of<strong> almond milk</strong> adds some liquid into the frosting. </li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li>Lastly, we will use <strong>powdered sugar</strong> to help create the frosting. </li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Variations and substitutes</h2>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Coconut oil or butter</strong>. This recipe calls for refined coconut oil as the baking fat. However, you can also use melted butter if you prefer. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Milk chocolate, dark chocolate</strong> or <strong>semi-sweet chocolate</strong>. To get rich and chocolatey brownies, we are going to melt some chocolate chips into the batter. Feel free to use milk, dark, or semi sweet chocolate depending on your preference. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="how-to-make-the-best-gluten-free-marshmallow-brownies">How to make the best gluten free marshmallow brownies</h2>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Firstly preheat your oven to 350 degrees</strong> and line an 8&#215;8 pan with parchment paper. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Now make the brownie layer.</strong> Melt the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Enjoy-Life-Baking-Chocolate-Gluten/dp/B000VK5VTO/ref=sr_1_4?crid=QR00T7EBI40C&amp;dchild=1&amp;keywords=enjoy+life+chocolate+chips&amp;qid=1628278484&amp;s=grocery&amp;sprefix=enjoy+life%2Cgrocery%2C169&amp;sr=1-4">chocolate chips</a> with the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/BetterBody-Foods-Organic-Naturally-Refined/dp/B00U1RKGOW/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&amp;keywords=coconut+oil&amp;qid=1628278625&amp;s=grocery&amp;sr=1-6">coconut oil</a> in a large microwave safe bowl. Let it cool. Then add in the <em>eggs, coconut sugar, almond flour, coconut flour</em>, <em>baking soda</em> and <em>salt</em>. Mix until combined and pour into the prepared pan.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">After that <strong>bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.</strong> </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Immediately remove the pan and add the two cups of marshmallows.</strong> Return the pan to the oven to cook for 2 more minutes.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Let the pan cool while you prepare the icing. </strong></p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Making the frosting in a small sauce pan on the stove. </strong>Add in the cocoa powder, coconut oil and almond milk. Mix over low heat until fully melted. Now stir in the powdered sugar. Then, pour the frosting over the marshmallow layer. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Finally, let the brownies cool for at least two hours before slicing.</strong> Or let the brownies cool for an hour and then add them to the fridge for an hour to harden before slicing. </p>

<p class="has-large-font-size">These brownies are best served chilled due to the icing and marshmallow layer. Once the brownies have cooled for an hour. Place them in the fridge for another hour or two before slicing. I actually prefer storing my marshmallow brownies in the freezer and enjoying them directly out of the freezer &#8211; yum!</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Add some ice cream.</strong> Heat up your brownie in the microwave and serve it warm with a scoop of your favorite ice cream. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Top with more marshmallows</strong>! Any marshmallow lovers? Add some more marshmallows on top of your serving. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">For extra chocolate flavor, sprinkle some <strong>chocolate chips</strong> on top. </p>

<p class="has-large-font-size">Since this recipe is made with applesauce, it can be considered a &#8216;lightened up&#8217; brownie recipe as it doesn&#8217;t have all the oil like traditional brownies have. However, these brownies still taste like the real deal! I have outlined a few reason why these brownies are wholesome.  </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">First of all,<strong> they are made with almond flour and coconut flour</strong>. Both of these gluten free flours are a great substitute to traditional flour. They also have many nutritional benefits! Almond flour has many added benefits like healthy fats, fiber and protein. Coconut flour is also rich in fiber and pairs perfectly with the almond flour in this recipe. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">Secondly<strong>, they use applesauce instead of oil (or another fat)</strong>. Applesauce is a great fat replacer in baked goods. It cuts back the calories and still makes moist and chewy desserts. Applesauce also adds fiber and other nutritional benefits. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">Finally,<strong> only 150 calories for one brownie!</strong> When cut into 9 squares these brownies are only 150 calories a piece. </p>

Instead of all the oil you can typically substitute in applesauce! Applesauce does tend to change the texture of baked goods so you have to be careful how you substitute it in. </p>



<p class="has-large-font-size">Adding applesauce into this recipe creates perfectly sweet, soft, and fluffy brownies. It also helps add fiber! And because applesauce is like a liquid it helps at moisture which keeps these brownies fudgy and moist.</p>

<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li>Firstly, <strong>preheat your oven to to 350 degrees</strong>. Grease an 8&#215;8 pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper</li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li><strong>Add the dry ingredients to a medium bowl</strong>: <em>almond flour, cocoa powder, coconut flour and baking soda</em>. </li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li><strong>Add the wet ingredients to a large bowl</strong>: <em>eggs, applesauce, coconut sugar, and maple syrup. </em>Whisk until combined.</li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li><strong>Fold the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients.</strong> Mix just until combined</li></ul>



<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li><strong>Pour the batter into your prepared pan. </strong> Sprinkle the top with chocolate chips!</li></ul>

<ul class="has-large-font-size wp-block-list"><li>Instead of coconut sugar, feel free to use <strong>regular white cane sugar</strong> as a 1:1 swap.</li><li>Instead of maple syrup, feel free to use <strong>honey</strong>. Maple syrup and honey help add chewiness and texture into the brownies so I recommend adding one of these options into the recipe. </li></ul>



<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Chocolate chips</strong>. Add extra chocolate chips into the batter or on top of the brownies before baking. This will add extra chocolate goodness and flavor. Plus who doesn&#8217;t love extra chocolate?</p>

<p class="has-large-font-size">For extra chocolate flavor, sprinkle more <strong>chocolate chips</strong> on top of your serving. </p>

That way you always have tasty treats on hand. To reheat these brownies, simply let them thaw at room temperature or defrost them in the microwave. </p>
